Your very own wedding would most likely be the biggest event of your life and we know it gets overwhelming by just looking at the checklist. Whether or not you are in a crunch of time, or planning ahead for D-Day, it always helps to delegate duties to friends and family and we’re sure they would be more than willing to help you through all the planning. If you find wedding planning checklists a bit overwhelming, here are 5 steps to ensure your big day is a success.
1. Plan Out Your Budget
When it comes down to how you can plan your wedding, you’ll first need to decide how much you can spend. It might not be the most fun, but it helps you shorten the process of scouting for the perfect venue or services you’d like to engage. So, sit down with your partner, parents or other contributors to come up with a total budget and divide it up by vendor or service accordingly.
2. Book A Venue & Lock Down Your Wedding Dates
Now that you have your budget in mind, an estimated guest count and a few potential wedding dates, you have all the information you would need to book the wedding venue. You could look up best wedding locations online, visit a venue in person and work hard with your partner to find your dream wedding space.
Also, decide if you’d prefer to have separate locations for the ceremony and the reception while considering travel times between the venues. Once, you’re absolutely happy with a location and have agreed to the terms of the contract, you’ve officially set a date for your wedding!
PS : Some couples would hire an event planner after choosing a venue while some wait until after depending on what you need.
3. Send Your Wedding Invitations
Have prepared a headcount spreadsheet to use throughout your wedding planning process with important columns for contact information and addresses. Speak to your designer about the ideas you have in mind for the look of your invitation and revise them to suit your needs. Wedding invitations are generally sent 6 to 8 weeks before the big day and the RSVP deadline is typically about 2 to 3 weeks in advance. Sending your invites on time is one of most essential steps to planning a wedding.
4. Choose your Wedding Day Cuisine
If the wedding venue you booked does not offer its own catering service, you would need to outsource for one. It is important to note down any dietary restriction and allergies of your guests. Speak with your caterer about these exceptions well in advance to make sure there is an option for everyone. Share the story of your relationship through your menu by serving dishes that are inspired by special moments, memories or even things that you love to do together
5. Plan Wedding Entertainment
Ensuring that your guests are well entertained throughout the wedding is something that you should definitely look into. Plan out a soundtrack that you would love to have play in the background to amplify the atmosphere. If you’d like, you could also consider having a live band play your favourite songs to get your guests grooving it out on the dance floor. However, most importantly, make sure that your guests can see and hear you during the ceremony and reception! If your guests are seated more than 15 rows back from your ceremony alter or podium, consider renting a mic and a platform. You’ll need to coordinate the delivery and setup with the space (if your wedding venue does not have the available equipment), so put your event planner or best man in charge of the task.
