[UPDATED] Corporate Events Now Allowed. Here’s What You Need To Know.

The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here. The Government of Malaysia recently announced that corporate events are now allowed to resume operations in the RMCO phase, also known as Recovery Movement Control Order. The RMCO period is from 10 June to 31 August 2020.

For your convenience and peace of mind, we have summarised the guidelines for conducting corporate events below. What are you waiting for? Let’s kick start the events industry!

Types Of Events Allowed

  • Meetings
  • Trainings
  • Seminars
  • Conference
  • Workshops
  • Examination
  • Town Hall
  • AGM
  • Press Conference

Maximum Participants Allowed

The current maximum number of participants that are allowed to attend any corporate event is 250 pax. However, due to the 1m social distancing rule, event organisers and property owners must now calculate the maximum number of participants allowed for their own venue. Also, event organiser and venue owners must ensure that there is only 1 way for entry and exit.

Let us break it down for you on how you can calculate the number of participants allowed in your own space. Assuming your venue has a build up of 100 square meters. Now, in layman calculation, since 1 square meter is equivalent to 1m, you will technically be able to fit 100 pax in your venue. But venue owners must not forget that in a venue, there will be other equipments and furnitures such as stage, speakers, tables & chairs, that will affect the calculation illustrated above, therefore, it is important to calculate your venue’s nett build up space after deducting all the space occupied by furnitures and equipments to find out exactly how many pax your venue is allowed to hold legally.

Age of Participants

Ages that are allowed to attend any events are between 18 years old to 60 years old.

Red Zones

Venues located in RED ZONES are prohibited from conducting any events. To find out if your venue is located in a red zone, you may visit this LINK

Food & Beverage

Food and drinks are allowed to be served. The recommended method to serve food is via packed bento. Buffets are not permitted. This is to discourage sharing of food and using same spoons to scoop food from the buffet line. Ideally, the best method to distribute packed food is to have everyone queue to collect their packed food which will be handed to them by the event or venue representative.

Registration & Contact Tracing

Venues are required to set up registration counters or booths outside the venue to conduct temperature checks of all guests entering the premise. To register, participants must scan QR code that is generated from the MySejahtera app. Attendees with body temperature above 37.5 Celsius will not be allowed to enter the venue. Apart from that, individual that are showing signs of fatigue, shortness of breath, coughing and flu are not permitted to enter the venue and should be reported to the relevant authorities. Participants without a QR code scanner must register manually.

Cleanliness

Venue operators are required to perform deep cleaning and disinfecting of their premies before opening and to also continue cleaning and disinfecting everyday after any event. Venue owners are also responsible to provide hand santizers around the venue, especially the entrance, lounge, pantry, toilets and individual meeting rooms.

[UPDATED 28 June 2020]

On 24 June 2020, the Malaysian Government announced that social events which include, birthdays, engagement parties, weddings, reunion, religious event, gatherings and other related social events will be allowed to be conducted staring 1 July 2020 onwards.

Another announcement made is that buffet style catering will be allowed to be served at the event provided that there are sufficient servers to manage the buffet lines and to serve food to each guest. As for the maximum capacity allowed to attend the event, it remains the same at 250 pax, alongside all others social distancing SOP’s.
